When designing your kitchen layout you may be thinking your hob needs to be by a wall to be able to install an extractor fan. This is not the case. With Kitchen designers realising that many modern homes have central kitchen islands and many homeowners wanting cooking to be at the heart of the home, many hobs are now being situated on the central island. This has led to extractor fan designers having to come up with new and modern ways to extract cooking smells.
Ductless Extractor Fans can be used on central islands. These contain activated carbon filters which trap odour and condensation. These filters do need to be changed every 3-6 months to ensure they are working effectively.
Slimline Ceiling cooker hoods are a great option if you prefer to avoid the bulky hood appearance as these fit almost flush to the ceiling. These also have a carbon filter which will need changing. This can be useful if you wish to avoid ducting the extractor fan.
Downdraft Hood fit within the island worktop itself and raise whilst cooking or into the induction hob.
